US Masters 2013 Preview

Last year we all saw one of the greatest shots that have ever been played in the sudden death playoff to differentiate between Louis Oosthuizen and Bubba Watson. Here I’ll lay down my favourites to win the green jacket and why:

Tiger Woods

In all honesty does this selection really need an explanation? He is the best golfer in the world and perhaps the best of all time. His putting is outstanding and he possesses an uncanny ability to make plays when it most matters. There’s also the little fact that he has already won four jackets and has mastered Augusta and it’s difficulties.

Jason Day

He had a poor 2012 but was ever so close to winning the WGC Match Play in Arizona earlier this year. We know he can play at Augusta and I truly believe that he might, one day, work his way back up to major contention. Whether he can do it this year in the Masters remains to be seen!

Justin Rose

My personal favourite to win a major this year, Rose has been making great strides in the world of golf ever since switching from the European Tour to the PGA Tour. The courses in America suit his style more and I think he just enjoys living there without too much travelling.

Adam Scott

My favourite golfer to watch, I think he has it all but seems to lose his nerve on occasion whilst putting. Last year’s meltdown at the Open might be of concern but the fact that he has played well here numerous times should hold him in good stead. I wouldn’t put money on him though, he is notoriously untrustworthy when it comes to putting for championships, something which is required for all golf tournaments but a necessity in Augusta.

Matt Kuchar

A marvellous player who always seems to be underrated, Kuchar could see this as his opportunity to shine. I think he’ll be able to handle the pressure and he is in very good form right now.

Others to watch out for: Fred Couples, Louis Oosthiuzen

Players to avoid: Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley
