Monthly Power Rankings February 2013

The Power Rankings will now be done on a monthly basis (mostly as I have little to no time right now!)

11 (First) – 20 (Last): PSG, Manchester City, Valencia, Porto, Benfica, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintract Frankfurt, Liverpool, Reading

10 – AC Milan

AC Milan

Milan are back, well not quite to the level that they were before but they are still playing extremely well. I was relectunt to put them very high last month as I wasn’t sure if this was a permanant change but the signing of Balotelli as well as their performances against Bologna and Siena show me that they are the real deal.

9 – Napoli

SSC+Napoli+v+FC+Dnipro+Dnipropetrovsk+-+UEFA+Europa+League

With the likes of Cavani and Hamsik, Napoli were always going to be contenders in the title race but they have hit form recently, showing up the likes of Roma on the way. Only three points behind the Old Lady, the side from Naples could win their first title since the days of Maradonna.

8 – Shakhtar Donetsk

Why oh why did Willian choose to leave Shakhtar for Anzhi?? He fits perfectally into the system but Taison seems like a capable replacement. Maybe we will see more of Douglas Costa as well.

7 – Atletico Madrid

atletico madrid

I was close to dropping them down a few spots, they’ve probably hit the wall and won’t play any better than they have already done. Still, they could end up with another Europa League trophy which wouldn’t be too bad.

6 – Real Madrid

Madrid are just too talented to be any lower than sixth. Cristiano Ronaldo alone could probably push Barnet into the top 20! Diego Lopez is a perfectally capable replacement for the injured Iker Casillas but it might hurt the Galacticos emotionally to not have their leader.

5 – Manchester United

Manchester United celebrate their opener against Sunderland

United have just carried on in sutible fashion, winning most games but losing after a very solid display against Spurs. Ironically enough, Ferguson seems to have sorted out the defence a little bit but the goals are drying up in the big games. However you have to trust in the likes of Rooney, Hernandez and RVP to grab the headlines when needed.

4 – Juventus

Juventus

Bemoaning decisions not going your way when you are playing quite poorly is just creating excuses for no reason. Also, Juve just aren’t the team to complain. January has not been great for the Old Lady but I’m sure that they will pick up again.

3 – Borrusia Dortmund

Dortmund

Dortmund are doing fantastically well and with the return of Nuri Sahin, this should be the beginning of a Champions’ League run that could see the team in yellow lift the trophy it has been so distant from since they last won it in 1997.

2 – Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich

The Bavarian side still haven’t lost since October and that was only their second loss in all competitions. Having won 31 of their 37 games this season it seems harsh to leave them off the top. I think that they are playing better than Barca but it seems impossible to drop Barca as the World’s best.

1 – Barcelona

Lionel Messi

Again I was tempted to drop them to second but then I remembered that Barca are unbelievable and just incredible. Have I missed any superlatives?
